Chromosome medium is ready-to-use medium for the cultivation of lymphoid cells from peripheral blood. It serves as a basis for chromosome analysis.
It is produced with lectins. the lectins produce the activation of the lymphocytes, in order to reach a high mitotic activity of the cells. the mitotic cells can consequently be stopped with colchicine and colcemid. after spreading (“to sprite”) the cells on a microscope slide and the staining of the cells, the chromosomes can be shown in the different separating phases.
